SIVRRC service deliver will focus on SIV recipients. Who are SIV recipients? To better understand our core objectives, the following illustration is from two FOX News reports on SIV recipients by Teny Sahakian and Ian Allen:
The Special Immigrant visa program was created with the National Defense Authorization Act of 2006, and was designed to provide expedited visa processing for Afghans and Iraqis who worked as interpreters and translators for U.S. forces.
Cress Clippard, a former Marine officer and Afghanistan veteran who now volunteers with Combined Arms – a group that helps resettle Afghans and Iraqis who worked with U.S. forces – recently secured the evacuation of the family of a slain interpreter. Pulled from his car at a Taliban checkpoint, the former interpreter was executed in front of his young son as revenge for his service to the American military. "(He) had served more than 10 years with U.S. forces in Afghanistan. "We had to get that family out of there," said Clippard. "Their oldest adult son had a threat from the Taliban… and we knew it was so urgent that we simply got them out of Afghanistan." Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Mich., also says he understands the danger these interpreters face, and has been pressing for executive action. Having served as both an Army intelligence officer in Iraq and as a civilian conflict analyst with an international NGO in Afghanistan, Meijer told Fox News that these host nation allies were crucial to U.S. forces.
"I’ve been on both sides of the blast wall in both of our largest post 9/11 conflicts… we have an obligation to those who risked their lives on our behalf… we cannot leave them behind to certain death. … if they were in harm’s way, we would take care of them the way they took care of us."
Greg Adams, a former Green Beret in the U.S. Army Special Forces worked closely with Moneer, the Afghan civilian in 2009 and 2010.
"Moneer was instrumental in everything that we did." Greg Adams told Fox News. "This is somebody who was a trusted adviser for me and was tied into decision-making every single day." "His efforts kept elite U.S. service members alive on hundreds of dangerous missions and resulted in adversaries behind bars and more stable communities." wrote Adams. "He shares our values and sense of integrity deeply."
Matthew "Griff" Griffin, former Army Ranger who graduated from West Point with Adams in 2001, joined the initiative to get Moneer, whom he has also worked with, out of Afghanistan.
"Guys like Moneer, who have been in more firefights than 95% of veterans – he’s served our nation more than 99% of our population, and he can't get his paperwork through," Griffin told Fox News.
President Biden addressed the safety concerns of these Afghan allies on Thursday while discussing the end of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan.
"Our message to those women and men is clear," Biden said. "There is a home for you in the United States if you so choose. We will stand with you, just as you stood with us."
"This is a major national security issue," warned Griffin. "We're going to be kneecapping our foreign policy for the next 20 years if we don't come through on this simple promise that's within our reach." "If this isn't who we are, this is who we want to be. The country that will follow through on this," said Adams. "This is our opportunity. It's in front of us on a silver platter." SIVRRC efforts will concentrate to help these new comers who had pledged their loyalty to the US long before putting step in our country.
